Apache Trail

The Apache Trail in Arizona was a stagecoach trail that ran through the Superstition Mountains. It was named after the Apache Indians who originally used this trail to move through the Superstition Mountains.

The current Apache Trail links Apache Junction at the edge of the Greater Phoenix area, with Theodore Roosevelt Lake, through the Superstition Mountains and the Tonto National Forest.

Most of the Apache Trail is unpaved, turning into a dirt road a few miles up from Tortilla Flat, and continuing as such for nearly the full remainder of its length.

Goldfield with Keith

At the eastern edge of the Valley of the Sun is the ghost town of Goldfield. This was once a real town built around a gold mine and its miners, but is now a tourist attraction. It has a small railroad running around it, and tourists can ride to get a 360° look at the place, as well as its Superstition Mountains area.

Hieroglyphic Trail

Hieroglyphic Trail is a 2.8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Apache Junction, Arizona that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. At the end of this trail are petroglyphs and, in early spring, small waterfalls.

Lost Dutchman State Park

Lost Dutchman State Park is a 320-acre state park located near the Superstition Mountains in central Arizona, and named after the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine, a famous gold mine legendary among the tales of the Old West. It is easily accessible about 40 miles east of Phoenix via U.S. Highway 60, the Superstition Freeway.
