Our answer to "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition"—same idea, a little more devout about it.
Estimated reading time: 2 minute(s) (411 words)

Obviously, this one's my answer to "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition"—same wartime instinct to fold a prayer and a supply request into one line, just aimed a little higher and asking a little more nicely. While Richard Perkins sings the solo parts, this is very much the full ensemble, every voice we had, which felt right for a number that's less one person's story than the whole outfit saying the same thing at once.

Bless the stars that shine above,
Guide the boys we're dreaming of—
Bless the stars… and bring the bullets.

There's a letter in my pocket with your name across the fold,
And it warms me like a campfire when the nights turn biting cold.
You said you'd keep the porch light on till victory's unfurled—
So I'm marching with your memory through this shadowed, shaken world.

We'll hold the line till morning,
We'll stand through smoke and rain…
With every hope you send us
We rise and fight again.

[Chorus]
Bless the stars and bring the bullets,
Keep 'em flying straight and true.
Bless the stars and bring the bullets,
We've got miles of work to do.
For the girls who wait beside us,
For the dreams we're fighting through—
Bless the stars… and bring the bullets,
Till we're home again with you.

There's a captain on the hillside shouting orders through the din,
And the thunder of the cannons shakes the ground beneath our skin.
But I hear your Sunday whisper like a hymn behind the roar—
Saying, "Come back safe, my darling,"
And it steadies me once more.

When the night grows long and lonesome…
Long and lonesome…
Long and lonesome…
And the sky forgets to shine—
I remember how you told me
That your heart stays tied to mine.
So I shoulder up my rifle,
And I do what must be done…
For the promise of tomorrow
And the rising of the sun.

[Chorus]
Bless the stars and bring the bullets,
Let the daylight find our way.
Bless the stars and bring the bullets,
Till we see that peaceful day.
For the ones who pray behind us,
For the love we can't betray—
Bless the stars… and bring the bullets,
Till we're home and there to stay.

Bless the stars…
Bring the bullets…
And bring us home again.
