Santa Catalina Island lies 26 miles off the California coast, more-or-less west of Newport Beach. One flies there on a helicopter, or sails on a pedestrian ferry.

In addition to city activities in the town of Avalon, the island offers camping, swimming, snorkeling and kayaking.

Today I reluctantly left Michael and the rest of the family on Catalina Island, as I made the journey back home so I could get to work tomorrow…a trip that involved almost every mode of transportation known to man except hot-air ballooning.
