Mount Lemmon (called by the indigenous O'odham people Babad Do'ag), with a summit elevation of 9,159 feet is the highest point in the Santa Catalina Mountains. It is located in the Coronado National Forest north of Tucson, Arizona.

Mount Lemmon was named for botanist Sara Plummer Lemmon, who trekked to the top of the mountain with her husband and a local rancher, by horse and foot, in 1881. It is reported that Mount Lemmon Ski Valley, on the mountain's northeastern side, receives 200 inches of snow annually.

On a much-needed sanity day, after a thorough house-cleaning and preparation for the carpet and tile guy to clean our carpets and, yes, our tiles, I escaped in the Ford Expedition and headed for a mountain I've wanted to re-visit for the last twenty years, since my first visit there. It's Mount Lemmon, located just outside of Tucson. My first visit was up the mountain's backside; this time I would drive up the more civilized paved road, known as Catalina Highway, to the town called Summerhaven at the very top.

This morning dawned so fresh and clear I immediately decided this would be a day for a road trip. Keith and I decided on a destination, and we selected Mt Lemmon, in whose shadow lies Tucson, partly because Keith had never before been there.
