Ella was originally my grandson Zach's dog, a puppy that was a gift from his parents for Christmas. A purebred Golden Retriever, Ella grew fast and was all over the place. Unfortunately, Zach, who was a senior in high school at the time, had too much homework and also had a part-time job, so his mom wound up taking care of her—which with two toddlers to watch at the same time, turned out to be an impossible job. So they passed Ella on to me: First, to potty train her; but she just never left, as Zach went on to New York to college, then Hawaii ahead of us.

I first met Ella, my grandson Zach's English Cream Golden Retriever, at my house where Zach showed up to help with tree decorating. I managed to "help" by keeping the puppy on my lap.

Our beloved Ella just passed over the Rainbow Bridge.

Ella, our beloved English Cream Golden Retriever, passed away this morning at 1:30 AM. I awoke spontaneously about three minutes before that, and was able to hold her as she breathed her last. She was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago so we knew this was coming. Still, it was sad to see her in pain and having more and more trouble walking. That she died peacefully with her human at her side was a blessing. As it is knowing that she had an amazing life for a dog, or even most humans.
