Cilwa/Manion 2000-2010

Michael Manion and I were married in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Surprise, AZ on August 12, 2000, at noon, by the Rev. Walt Wieder and the Rev. Surya-Patricia Lane Hood.

Although we dissolved our union at the end of 2010 as we'd grown apart, Michael and I are still dear friends and I'm proud to present these pages to those who use them for ideas for their own weddings.

We printed the invitations ourselves, using Microsoft Publisher 2000 and special invitation-style card stock. The invitations were personalized, using Publisher's Mail Merge feature. Inside the double-fold invitations were directions to the church; we also included self-addressed, stamped envelopes for the personalized response cards (also-included).

We are gathered together, this day, in this place, to celebrate the decision of two people to marry. And it is proper that we share this day with them, for it is not only an individual act, but affects those around us—for from this day, Paul and Michael are a wedded couple in the eyes of God, this church and their friends.

As the Service of Union completed, trumpets blared the start of the recessional, a triumphant organ-and-choir rendition of Beethoven's Song of Joy (arrangement Paul S Cilwa). Michael and I marched to the rear doors, then greeted and thanked the various attendees as they filed past us into the reception area. The music segued into a dance version of the same tune, playing long enough for everyone to exit.

After the trip to Grand Canyon and Sedona, Dorothy Ann and Bob, and Chris, and Donald and Aimee, still had a day before returning home…so we went back to Sedona, which had impressed everyone but Donald and Aimee, who hadn't had a chance to go the first time.
